7 Dope Black Women Fashion Brands

For Us By Us

Usually, I mind my business. Well, sometimes.

But Gucci is really pissing me off.

Not only are they promoting fashion designs that are completely offensive to the African American community, but they’re also stealing from and profiting from a Black designer in the process.

 I am disgusted.

If G chooses to be a trash racist company, that’s their business.

But I want to make sure we have other alternatives so that we can shop with brands that respect our lives and our coins.

Our money has power and hunny, I’m not afraid to use it.

Black people are obviously global trendsetters so I want to put some black women on your radar who have been doing their thing in the fashion industry.

Need Some Clothes?

All Dem Shades

This is a brand after my own heart.

According to the website, All Dem’ Shades, “was designed to celebrate the powerful, fly & unapologetic black woman.”

It started in 2016 and their site is full of magical black women of all shades.

They have beautiful t-shirts, crop tops, and more. The casual cute vibe is something that should be part of every woman’s wardrobe.

At ADS “fashion meets a social movement”.

William Okpo

It might cost you a pretty penny, but luxury isn’t cheap.

The William Okpo brand is truly elegant and vibrant in it’s design.

According to their website, “William Okpo is a women’s wear collection designed by sisters Darlene and Lizzy Okpo. A nurtured love for fashion and creativity brought about the birth of their collection, which is named after their father.”

With 2 sisters of my own, I have a special place in my heart for sisterly love. Especially when it’s expressed through such elegant fashion.

Need Nudes?

Nubian Skin

No, not those nudes. In this case I’m talking about nudes that match your skin tone.

Nubian Skin is a company focused on providing nude hosiery solutions for people with tan, medium, and dark skin.

According to the website, “Nubian Skin launched with a carefully edited collection of lingerie and hosiery to provide the essential underwear needs of women of colour.”

Need Accessories?

Brother Vellies

Brother Vellies is all about unique fashion with a noble purpose.

As you’ll find on their site, “Brother Vellies was founded by Aurora James with the goal of introducing the rest of the world to her favorite traditional African footwear, while also creating and sustaining artisanal jobs within Africa. ”

The accessories are a little avante garde for me but definitely have that high end quality feel. And a price tag to match.

Got a Hankering for Headwraps?

I know I do.

I have a scarf on my head as we speak because I’ve been putting off washing my hair for 4 days. Don’t judge me!

So the idea of still being able to look fly with a dope head wrap really appeals to me.

Fanm Djanm

O. M. G

I love when brands are really pulled together and that’s exactly what this brand is. From the luscious colors to the tantalizing imagery, I am completely pulled in.

And my favorite part is that they have tutorials to show customers how to use their head wraps.

To quote their website: “We seek our inspirations from African and Asian cultures, and we celebrate women everywhere”.

That girl power really speaks to me.

Need swimwear?

BFYNE

This brand is simply incredible, well done, and well priced.

I love paying black women for their work. Especially when the quality speaks for itself.

The patters are beautiful, the designs are unique, and you will feel like an absolute goddess. And let’s be honest… that’s important.

I wish the scarf was included but it’s not. Can’t win ’em all.

Nakimuli

I came across Nakimuli’s swim suit brand and immediately fell in love with their bold patterns.

I like to keep my style simple and elegant, but I STAN a dope pattern as you may have noticed.

On their website you’ll find women of all shades in swimsuits of many different sizes. That’s the type of inclusivity I like to see!

In addition, they have tons of other items which I might actually like more than the swimsuits.
